Cheryl Lean has practised family law and child welfare law in Prince Edward County since 2004, having previously practised, family law, employment law and civil litigation in Ottawa for 12 years. Cheryl graduated from Dalhousie Law School (now The Schulich School of Law) in 1989, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in Ottawa in 1991. In 2003 she was granted an LLM by Osgoode Hall Law School. Cheryl served for several years on the Board of the Hastings County Law Association and served as its president from 2007 until 2009. Prior to entering law, Cheryl had a successful career in photography, film and radio broadcasting. She earned first prize in a national photography exhibition in 1978 which traveled across Canada and to the United Kingdom. In 1981 a filmstrip she directed for the NFB won a major award at the New York Film and Television Festival. Cheryl was an active feminist in the 1970’s as a member of a feminist advocacy group. In 1981 she participated along with thousands of other Canadian women in a national campaign to secure equality rights in the Charter.
