Biography

​Ross W. Murray, Q.C., graduated from Queens University with a Bachelor of Commerce, and York University with an M.B.A. He spent four years in the money market and venture capital areas before starting at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. When he graduated in 1975, he articled at Oslers. Then he and his family moved from Toronto back to Thunder Bay. Mr. Murray had a broad legal practice in Northwestern Ontario, including serving small and medium sized businesses, prosecuting drug cases, and litigating family law, personal injury, and employment law cases. Mr. Murray was a director of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association for six years, and remains a member of the Advocates Society.Mr. Murray has served as a bencher for the Law Society of Ontario since 1991. He is Past Chair of the Law Society Finance Committee and Past Chair of the Lawyers’ Professional Indemnity Company. Elected four times, he became a Life Bencher. Mr. Murray has sat on and chaired many hearing and appeal panels, often writing the reasons. Mr. Murray was actively involved in initiating and developing the proposal for a new law school at Lakehead University. Founded in 2013, it was recently named the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law. He is currently on the Board of Governors of Lakehead, and is Chair of Finance.
