Biography

Eric Whist has been a lay member of the Law Society Tribunal since June 2014. Previously he served on Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario for 10 years, seven as a Vice-chair. Prior to that he was  a member of the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) for 10 years including serving as the acting Assistant Deputy Chairperson of the Board’s Immigration Appeal Division. More recently, he was a member of the IRB’s Refugee Protection Division for one year. In addition to this adjudicative experience Mr. Whist has extensive experience in Ontario’s human rights system having worked with the Ontario Human Rights Commission and the Ontario Race Relations Directorate before joining the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing where he worked on strategies to improve the quality of life in public housing communities. Mr. Whist has a BA from the University of Toronto.
