Biography

Suzanne Clément worked for the federal public service for over 35 years, for the most part, in senior management positions.  Ms. Clément held various positions including deputy head for Status of Women Canada, Secretary-General for the Department of Canadian Heritage, Director General of Portfolio Affairs for the Government of Canada’s cultural portfolio, Director General responsible for policies and programs promoting participation in cultural and community affairs in Canada, and the development of the government’s primary initiative to commemorate the new millennium.  Ms. Clement also held the positions of Director General of the Youth Employment Strategy and of Director General of Communications and Public Relations at the then Department of Human Resources Development Canada.  In 1987, Ms. Clément was the first woman to be appointed as Secretary-General of the National Transportation Agency of Canada.   From 2014 to May 2018, Ms. Clément was Chair of the Montfort Hospital Board of Trustees.  In 2015, Ms Clément was Appointed Bencher for the Law Society of Ontario and  Adjudicator at the Law Society Tribunal for a period of four years.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Ottawa.
