Biography

Professor Vern Krishna teaches law at the University of Ottawa and is Tax Counsel with TaxChambers LLP. Professor Krishna was educated in England, Canada and the United States in Accounting, Business, and Law. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from Manchester University, an MBA and LL.B from the University of Alberta, a Diploma in Comparative Law from Cambridge University, and a Masters in Law from Harvard University.

Professor Krishna is a barrister, and Queen’s Counsel. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He was awarded the Order of Canada in 2004, and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013. He is listed in Lexpert’s Directory of Best Lawyers in Canada in tax law, trust law, and appellate advocacy.

He was Visiting Scholar in International Tax at the Harvard Law School in 1998, where he taught in the International Tax Program. Professor Krishna was the Treasurer of the Law Society of Ontario from 2001 to 2003, and President of the Certified General Accountants Association (Ontario) from 1995 to 1996.

Professor Krishna has published 14 books, including The Fundamentals of Canadian Income Tax (2014), now in its 10th edition (Thomson Carswell), The Essentials of Income Tax (2012 Irwin Law), and Understanding Financial Statements (2013). He is a regular contributor to the National Post, Lawyers Weekly and the Bottom Line.
